Employer-Directed Testing
NON-DOT Urine Specimen Collection
Flexible, employer-directed drug testing for workplaces not subject to federal DOT regulations. You set the policy — we handle the collection.
What Is NON-DOT Drug Testing?
NON-DOT drug testing is employer-directed testing that falls outside federal DOT regulations. It is governed by your company's own drug-free workplace policy rather than a specific federal mandate.
While the rules are more flexible than DOT testing, professional collection practices — including chain of custody documentation and specimen integrity checks — are still strongly recommended to protect your organisation and ensure defensible results.
How NON-DOT Differs from DOT Testing
| Aspect | DOT Testing | NON-DOT Testing |
|---|---|---|
| Governing authority | Federal regulation (49 CFR Part 40) | Employer's written drug-free workplace policy |
| Panel requirements | Mandatory 5-panel (federal substances only) | Employer chooses panel — 5, 10, 12-panel or custom |
| CCF form | Federal Custody and Control Form required | Non-federal CCF or employer chain of custody form |
| MRO review | Required for all non-negative results | Optional but recommended |
| Testing circumstances | Strictly defined by regulation | Defined by employer policy |
Common NON-DOT Testing Circumstances
Your policy defines when testing occurs. We support all common employer-directed circumstances.
Pre-Employment
Screen candidates before they begin work. Helps establish a drug-free culture from day one and reduces liability.
Random Testing
Unannounced, random selection from your employee pool on an ongoing basis. A strong deterrent and a key component of any drug-free workplace programme.
Reasonable Suspicion
When a supervisor observes specific, documented signs of impairment or drug use, a for-cause collection can be ordered under your policy.
Post-Accident
Following a workplace incident or near-miss, testing helps determine whether substance use was a contributing factor and protects your organisation.
Return-to-Duty
Before an employee returns to work following a policy violation or leave related to substance use, a negative test result may be required.
Periodic / Annual
Scheduled testing as part of an annual physical or employment renewal. Provides a consistent baseline across your workforce.
Flexible Testing Panels
Unlike DOT testing, NON-DOT allows employers to choose the substances screened. Common panels include:
